Middle of Nowhere

JOY REVIEW

Middle of Nowhere is a story that we’ve seen before, but perhaps from a slightly different perspective, with a beautiful heroine who turns out to be a medical student at the beginning of the movie.  Her husband goes to prison and is about to get out, and she basically keeps in touch with him for the entire amount of his prison sentence, which is supposed to be eight years, but he’s out in five as he’s about to have early parole.  She goes to the parole hearing and finds out quite accidentally — well, I don’t want to give away all the plot.  I’m not going to tell you what she finds out, but it completely offsets her commitment to him and her loyalty.  This is an interesting movie.  I think it’s somewhat unrealistic, to be quite honest.  How did this couple hook up and how did this blue-collar guy get with this medical student and all others sorts of issues.  It’s an incredibly gorgeous cast.  The problem is it’s just so slow.  You could watch paint dry.  I think it’s only about 90 minutes, but it seems like it took forever to get there.  For being a gorgeous cast, a story that’s not quite believable, but sort of interesting, I give it two and a half stars.
