After super-villain Megamind (Ferrell) kills his good-guy nemesis, Metro Man (Pitt), he becomes bored since there is no one left to fight. He creates a new foe, Titan (Hill), who, instead of using his powers for good, sets out to destroy the world, positioning Megamind to save the day for the first time in his life. Megamind is being touted as the face off between Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt, and it’s really not. Brad Pitt really does not play much a part of it and for the first 15 minutes, I thought this would have been a much more interesting animation had Brad Pitt played the bad guy and Will Ferrell played Megamind. Tina Fey plays the requisite smart-alecky girlfriend. Jonah Hill plays Tina Fey’s nerdy camera man Hal, who becomes the new superhero Titan and he doesn’t understand it’s Titan, so he spells it Tighten. David Cross plays Minion, a Megamind assistant and there are a couple of cameos with people that I don’t think I’m going to spoil the fun by telling you who they are. This is an incredibly complicated plot for a regular movie, let alone animation. But, I think you will enjoy it if you just follow along, and it is fun. The 3-D is good. The humor is snotty enough and adult enough that if you’re not a kid, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you are a kid, a lot of the stuff’s going to go over your head, but what do you care, you’re there to watch things pop out at you. I’d give it three stars.
