monica oh monica

When an awkward teen meets his favorite porn star, whose career peaked in the ’80s, an unexpected friendship follows as the young man gets a glimpse inside Monica Velour’s current life as a single mom struggling to make ends meet.

MEET MONICA VELOUR: It’s one of those movies that it’s actually better than it sounds. The story is that a young kind of nerd has a fixation on an aging porn star, Kim Catrell, and he lives with his crotchety grandfather, who’s Brian Dennehy, and finds out two things simultaneously that makes him believe that the universe is telling him something, which is:

1. Somebody’s willing to buy his hot dog truck in Indiana, and Monica is going to appear in Indiana as well. So he decides that that’s really a sign that the universe is telling him that it’s time to go to Indiana, so off he goes. And actually runs into and meets Monica. And what follows them is an interesting story. She’s kind of an aging drug addict, whatever. And he learns about love and life and all sorts of things. Kim Catrell is really fairly good in this, which is a pleasure, and the kid, Dustin Ingram is very good in it. I’d give it three stars.
