Magic Trip

JOY REVIEW

Magic Trip is kind of a cool documentary and for those of you who don’t know who Ken Kesey is, he wrote One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He was part of a kind of counter-culture hippie movement and went across the country in a hippie bus and sort of invented a lot of the things that we associate with being hippies. The archival footage is just terrific. I mean, this wasn’t so much a documentary or nostalgia, as kind of my adolescence. This is sort of what I looked to become at some point. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, I didn’t, and neither did the rest of the county. But it’s really kind of a look back and understanding some very smart people who made some interesting choices, including fairly serious drug usage and wife swapping and dropping out and acid, and you’ll find out all sorts of things about the ’60s that you may or may not have known. I really enjoyed that; I thought it was really fun, a little trippy. Please don’t use drugs at home. I’ll give it three stars
