MacGruber – Movie Review
Ex-special operative MacGruber is called back into action to take down his archenemy, Dieter Von Cunth, who’s in possession of a nuclear warhead and bent on destroying Washington, D.C.
What can I say about this movie? This is a three-minute sketch that has about 90 seconds of fun in it. It’s now been expanded into a 90-minute movie from the Saturday Night Live gang, Loren Michaels is at it again. This is Will Forte playing MacGruber, who is supposed to be a take off on MacGuyver who has his group of thugs that are going to save the world. He packs them all in a van and tells them to wait for him and he packs explosives in it and the whole thing blows up and we’re supposed to view this as wildly funny and clever. He’s sort of a mercenary that is a klutz and keeps blowing people up. I just thought it was boring. It’s not even bad enough to be offensive, and people are saying it’s an homage and a send-off. I just thought it was stupid and boring and not funny and a waste of time. The fact that they’ve stolen a nuclear weapon, and the story opens up in a scene that looks like and Iraq warzone with bloody bodies strewn every place and and this is supposed to be a comedy. It’s not violent enough even to be, as I said, offensive. It’s just plain stupid and Boothe Powers, who is always fun to watch and Val Kilmer, also fun to watch, but this is a complete waste of time and if you go see it, you’re on your own. Zero stars.
