Lovers of Hate
Lovers of Hate – Movie Review
A dark comedy which follows two brothers who are in love with the same woman.
LOVERS OF HATE is one those movies that’s kind of hard to describe. What we see is a discombobulated guy who seems to have just gotten fired from his job. The movie opens with him trying to take a shower at a car wash and so it goes down hill from there. I know, I know; why people are making these kind of sad, awful movies, I’m not sure. Basically it is about three not terribly attractive people, which is not necessarily a problem, but doesn’t exactly make you go “wow, this is going to be fun to watch these cool people do things”. And these people are drawn together because the men are brothers, and the woman, while seemingly committed to one, has some attraction to the other. The one sorta loser brother gets fired from his job and the successful brother, who looks absolutely nothing like him, writes wildly successful children’s books and comes to town. All three end up at a country house that’s owned by somebody else and what happens then is I think more than a little creepy. I guess though that it’s supposed to be redemptive. I just really get tired of watching movies about unpleasant people doing unpleasant things that aren’t the least bit entertaining so I give this one one star.
