Lore

JOY REVIEW

Lore is the story of a young woman who’s parents are Nazi’s, and when they are captured with the allies at the end of World War II, the 14 yr old has to take her four siblings across a country that seems hostile in all sorts of ways. When she meets a young refugee, she finds her world shattered because he’s everything that she was taught to hate; he’s Jewish and she has to put her trust in him. It’s actually a very interesting movie and the cinematography is really fantastic and beautifully done, and the actress who plays “Lore” was great, but it’s a really hard movie to warm up to because she’s not a terribly sympathetic character. It’s from Australia and has a completely different sensibility from other Holocaust movies, and it also took forever with so many shots of tree branches. On an asthetic level, it’s really beautiful, on a staying involved and staying interested level, it could have moved a lot faster. Two and a half stars.
