London Boulevard stars Colin Farrell as a guy who has just gotten out of prison and doesn’t want to go back. Kiera Knightly plays a movie star who needs a bodyguard and Ray Winstone plays a mob boss while Ben Chaplin plays Colin’s friend. It’s obviously very well cast. It’s the directorial debut of William Monahan who wrote The Departed, and so smacks a lot of Scorcese. It’s very violent, it’s very well acted and very stylish, but hard to understand with all those accents and probably a little too cute for words; you can see it’s a first time director. It’s not bad, it’s just that in the hands of a more experienced director it could have been paced a little bit better. Two and a half stars.
