Little Birds is a movie that’s got Juno Temple, Kay Panabaker, and Kyle Gallner, and it actually doesn’t even talk about the big name stars, which are Kate Beckinsale and Leslie Mann. I suppose it’s supposed to be Juno Temple’s movie, in that’s she’s a 15 year old who’s very discontent living with her mother in a trailer park. She has a best friend, who’s Kay Panabaker, who is kind of a saner sort of role model. They live on the edge of the Salton Sea, and that’s supposed to be the metaphor for the movie: everything’s dying. Juno is desperate to get out and figures out a way to get to L.A. by involving her friend, and less-than hilarity ensues. The problem about this movie is it’s a little independent movie, and Juno is sort of interesting looking but Kay is a much better actress. And, there’s a certain amount of glamour with Leslie Mann and Kate Beckinsale involved, but they don’t do very much. The character that Juno Temple plays is so unpleasant, and it’s very hard to spend 95 minutes with somebody that is unpleasant, unkind, immoral, and never learns. Two and half stars.
