Kick Ass – Movie Review
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.
Kick Ass; Alright folks, it’s kind of a tacky title. But this is a really clever movie for a whole lot of reasons. First of all, the lead character, Aaron Johnson, starts off as a dweeb and morphs into a superhero. Alright, we’ve seen that before. But this is a kid who is determined to have no super powers and his fancy suit is a scuba diving outfit. In addition there’s all sorts of very clever marketing in this film. There is the usual Porky crew of kids: the outsider, the one making all the tacky sex jokes, etc. But in addition to this we have Nicolas Cage who has a daughter. Nicolas Cage is Big Daddy and his daughter is Hit Girl. This is a very strange movie but it’s got everything in it to make a lot of money. It’s Porky’s humor, it’s superhero, it’s bad guys, it’s incredibly violent, it’s incredibly crude and it has an 11-year-old heroine. What’s not to love? This is something to offend and just entrance everybody. It’s also very well shot and it’s just under two hours and it’s going to make scads of money. It probably cost $0.48 to make and will end up making millions. And yeah, it’s fun. I’m going to give it three and a half stars.
