John Rabe – Movie Review
A true-story account of a German businessman who saved more than 200,000 Chinese during the Nanking massacre in 1937-38
John Rabe: This is a movie with a great deal of foreign cast. It’s based on rather an obscure person that I didn’t know about who was actually a member of the Nazi party in Nanking just before World War II when the Japanese invaded, and this is one of those extraordinary movies that you probably wouldn’t see if I didn’t direct you to it, but hopefully you will now because it is really wonderful. It is wonderfully acted. It is a part of history that I certainly didn’t know anything about, and heartbreaking, as well. So, it’s basically the Chinese version of Schindler’s List. Five stars.
