How to Train Your Dragon
A hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely owner of a young dragon himself, and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed
How to Train Your Dragon is from the same studio that did Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, and this one has really taken animation to the next level. It is in 3D, it is from Dream Works. The story begins with Gerard Butler as a Viking dad, and Jay Baruchel, the same cute kid who was in She’s Out of My League, playing the dad’s son. They live in a Viking village which is 700 years old. The village is being tormented by dragons. Stolick the Vast who’s Gerard Butler, who’s not only the dad, but also the village leader, is fighting dragons and defending his village. Part of the fun of this are the names. We have SnotLout, FishLegs, Rough Nut, and Toug Nut. You get the point. This is a movie I think your kids will absolutely be entranced by and so will you. It’s very well written, it’s very funny. And the animation is so good there is actually hair on the Vikings’ arms. And this is one of the movies that really uses 3D and CGI to great advantage when cute little old Hiccup gets on the dragon to fly. I mean if your heart doesn’t soar you’re tougher than I am. This is 90 minutes of pure enjoyment, the only real problem is that your face may hurt from smiling the whole time, five stars.
