Hotel Transylvania is an adorable animation from Sony that had the kids giggling their little heads off. The idea is that Count Dracula has a daughter who’s name is Mavis, and he decides to build a hotel for monsters so they’ll be safe from the wicked human beings who are always trying to set them on fire or kill them in 1895. We flash forward 118 years to Mavis’ 118th birthday where dad has got his annual party together and Mavis is yearning to be free. So a lot of this is about children having choices and parents letting go, with some very clever lines that will keep adults involved enough while the kiddies enjoy the slapstick. The graphics are wonderful. Adam Sandler plays a great Count Dracula, and even though everybody, including me, thought it was Reese Witherspoon it’s actually Selena Gomez who plays Mavis and Andy Samberg plays the human who accidentally breeches the walls of the castle. You’ll have a great time. Four stars.
