Hesher is a loner. He hates the world and everyone in it. He has long greasy hair and homemade tattoos. He is malnourished and smokes a lot of cigarettes. He likes fire and blowing things up. He lives in his van, until he meets TJ.

Hesher is one of those movies that I suppose is just too cool for school. It stars Joseph Gordon Levitt  who you may recall from Inception or (500) Days Of Summer.  Raine Wilson  to be quite honest, I never understood the fuss, Piper Laurie is nearly unrecognizable, and Natalie Portman stars as a sympathetic figure. The story is a father and son who are very depressed over the death of his mother and her wife and this kind of thuggish figure, that we are never sure is a metaphor or not, shows up and he is crude and rude, and I really didn’t quite get this movie. I thought there was nobody to like, and I don’t know what it was espousing that violence and crudeness will reunite a family?  One star.
