Happy Tears – Movie Review
Two sisters, Jayne (Posey) and Laura (Moore), return home to deal with their ailing father Joe (Torn), only to face some surprising situations
Happy Tears is a movie by Mitchell Lichtenstein who is Roy Lichtenstein’s son. It stars Rip Torn, Ellen Barkin , Parker Posey, and Demi Moore. The story is of two sisters, who are a little competitive with one another and a ne’er-do-well father, with Rip Torn playing without much of a stretch. I saw the movie the week that he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly with a loaded gun, so the shoe fits here. Ellen Barkin plays sort of a hooker/nurse. The problem about this is the guy who wrote it is also the guy who directed it, and there’s probably an interesting movie in here someplace, but the acting is really awful. None of the women are photographed particularly attractively and the real problem is you really don’t care about any of them and none of them are particularly likeable. So I will give it one star but that’s being pretty generous.
