Happiness Runs – Movie Review
The neglected child of parents living on a commune, Victor is helpless to resist the atmosphere of sex and drugs that permeates his world, but he’s smart enough to know that if he is going to survive, he has to get out.
Happiness Runs has got two big name stars in it and I’m not sure how they got there. It’s got Rutger Hauer and Andie MacDowell whom I guess got involved because if you’re a beauty who’s aging, there’s unfairly not a whole lot of offers out there. It’s not a bad story, it just doesn’t work very well. The idea is that all the hippie, free love communes, if it feels good do it, let it all hang out, communities of the 60s had ramifications for their children. So what we see is a commune where all the kids are drug addicts with questionable morals and one of the boys is trying to break free. His father says I never slept with a woman twice, the aging hippy guru is seducing young girls, one of the nasty boys sets a cow on fire. I guess we’re supposed to see evil and we see innocence. It’s not a bad idea of a movie, it somehow just doesn’t quite work. So two stars.
