Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football
Fordson: Faith Fasting and Football is a story of a Detroit high school that’s 95% Arab-Muslim and its football team. Most immigrants to the United States play soccer, but these guys don’t have a very good soccer team because everybody goes out to play football, and they’re a very good football team, but they have to deal with a huge amount of discrimination because they’re Muslims. It’s an interesting kind of snapshot of where America is right now, but the combination of the fascination with football and violence and the distrust of Muslims is sort of disconcerting — it probably could have used a little bit of flash and fun, but it’s an interesting documentary. Two and a half stars.
