Father of Invention

JOY REVIEW

FATHER OF INVENTION: stars Kevin Spacey, Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson, Johnny Knoxville (believe it or not), Heather Graham, and John Stamos. The idea is Kevin Spacey plays a millionaire infomercial guru who ends up in jail, and why he ends up in jail is part of the movie and part of the fun, and part of the funny. His wife, Virginia Madsen, has now taken up with Craig Robinson and decides that she’s going to have a movie career (make sure you stay for the end credits because you get to see Virginia and Craig in their song that they wrote and sing together). Kevin is alienated from his daughter, played by Camille Belle, and the film is basically how he tries to redeem himself. This is a movie that is kind of a shaggy dog story, and the ending doesn’t really make any particular sense. The first part of the film is just so nasty it’s really fun; the second part, not so much. Three stars.
