Fat Bitch! – Theater Review
Fat Bitch!, the new solo show written and performed by Erica Watson. In it,Watson explores society’s obsession with weight, race and class and how black women’s bodies have always been subjected to both admiration and ridicule.
Fat Bitch! is unfortunately named. I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to review it on the air without saying the b-word. This is Erica Watson who had been on Oxygen and is in Precious, and she does stand-up comedy as well. She’s very talented, she’s very charismatic. And a lot of what she says is very true and very enlightening. In the play, she’s talking about how difficult it is to be not only a woman of color but a very large woman of color and she made some really good points. She goes on a bit too long about her infatuation with the male member. But she’s a very talented woman and this is fun theatre. It’s at Laurie Beechman theatre which is a cabaret and they have $15 tickets and a $15 drink minimum. So overall it is inexpensive theatre and a fun thing to see, so three stars.
