An ex-con sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. During his campaign, however, he’s tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man.
Faster stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a guy who has just gotten out of prison and is hell bent to avenge the death of his brother, which we see about in flashbacks. So, he is the ex-con. Billy Bob Thorton plays a veteran cop, whom we find out very early on is a heroin addict and Oliver Jackson Cohen plays an eccentric hitman who has made a lot of money on the Internet and is very cute. So, the idea is the intersection of these three stories. I guess they are about single minded purpose and focus. Dwayne Johnson, who is The Rock, the name says everything about his acting style. He can’t act. He has gotten bigger and burlier and more tattooed and he really looks like a rock. Billy Bob Thorton is his usually eccentric; kind of sleazy self in this and Oliver Jackson Cohen was in Watchmen and as someone described, beautiful. There is also Carla Gugino, who was in Watchmen, who plays a cop as well. The idea is really the intersection of their stories and as I said, Dwayne can’t act, but to a certain extent we don’t care. This is a very violent movie. It is not very well written to be quite honest. On the other hand, the plot is kind of compelling and in some kind of strange way, this is a better movie than I expected it to be. It is incredibly violent, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. There are some lines that are laughable, but having said that, I think you will probably enjoy yourself if this is your kind of movie. It is violent and kind of silly and unbelievable, but it still has its own beat to it and I would give it — you know what, I’ll give it two and a half stars.
