DOV AND ALI
DOV AND ALI – Theater Review
DOV AND ALI- a new drama by playwright Anna Ziegler, author of the critically acclaimed play BFF– Now at The Cherry Lane Theater in Manhattan.
“DOV AND ALI” is a new play that looks at a Jewish teacher, who’s father is a Rabbi, and a Muslim student who’s sister is falling in love, in a way not acceptable to his family. The point it makes, and I think it makes it relatively charmingly, is that fundamentalism is not very nice to women, number one, and number two, puts huge strains on relationships. The four person cast is good. It is really anchored by Sameh who’s played by Anitha Gandhi who tells the story from her point of view. It’s a new play from the Playwrights Realm, which sponsors new works. The tickets are very reasonable, and it’s down at the Cherry Lane Theater. Make sure you stop into the restaurant next door on Commerce Ave. It’s a very good restaurant. Not inexpensive, but very good. The restaurant gets four stars, and Dov and Ali gets three.
