Despicable Me 2 is a follow up to what I thought was a sweet movie of three little orphan girls who were trying to sell cookies to Gru, a (ironically) gruesome man who was trying to steal the moon. As you know if you saw the first movie, the girls are later adopted by Gru, a changed man. This movie picks up with the same characters, but has much less punch because we’ve seen this kind of movie before and Gru is now the daddy to the three little orphan girls. So the movie starts off with Gru off to fight evil, which is a huge magnet that picks up a space station in Antarctica. It turns out there is a serum that has been created, that when injected in to bunnies turns them in to violent, purple creatures. Gru is sent undercover to a mall to figure out which of the mall owners is really the bad guy. Gru then believes he has found out who the bad guy is, but no one listens to him. People believe that Gru’s attitude may be prejudice by the fact that one of his daughter’s is smitten by the scent of one of the owner’s of the restaurant. The plot is a little more than convoluted. I didn’t think this was as much fun, fresh, and as basic as the first Despicable Me. Despicable Me 2 isn’t very despicable, and there’s probably gonna be a third depending on how much money this one makes. I would give it 2 and a half stars.
