Daybreakers – Movie Review

In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.

The poster for Daybreakers may be one of the worst that has ever been promoted for a film, because it’s not what the film is about. The poster makes it look like this is another horror flick, and what it is is kind of a stylish film noir/science fiction/vampire movie. I know, I haven’t necessarily whetted your appetite. The cast is terrific; it’s got Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill, and Ethan Hawke in it. The story is set in the year 2019. There’s been a mysterious plague that swept the Earth, so most of the earth is populated vampires which can survive on human blood. I don’t want to tell you too much about it, except believe it or not, this a worthwhile movie, not Oscar material, but not bad. Three and a half stars.
