Date Night – Movie Review
In New York City, a case of mistaken identity turns a bored married couple’s attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous.
Date Night is one of those things that must have seemed inspirational on paper. The movie is about Steve Carrell from the Office and Tina Fey from 30 Rock going out on date, taking someone’s restaurant reservation, then being stalked by criminal. What a great idea? How much fun? Not. This is one of those movies that is badly written and boring. It’s only 88 minutes and it seems like it’s been going on for five days by the time you’re through with it. It’s just awful. And it’s too bad, because these are two stars that, within their own universes, are huge stars, together, this is a black hole of Calcutta. And people may go to see it because they’re very popular and very funny with the right script and the right supporting cast. Here, there’s no chemistry, it’s just a mess. I’m going to give it zero stars. I wish I hadn’t been there.
