Creation – Movie Review
English naturalist Charles Darwin struggles to find a balance between his revolutionary theories on evolution and the relationship with religious wife, whose faith contradicts his work
Creation is the back story on Charles Darwin, who many think is the greatest mind of the 20th century in that he came up with an idea that changed everything. As one of the characters said, he killed God, which I’m not sure is entirely true. Paul Bettany plays with his real life wife, Jennifer Connelly, and the first half hour of the movie is very strange to be quite honest. It’s very atmospheric, and the first part is very dark, and we find out, although it’s hinted at, but we don’t find out about 2/3 of the way through the movie that he actually lost a favorite child and how he is haunted by that, as well as the demons about the fact that his wife becomes very religious and that he feels that publishing The Origin of Species will be an irrevocable rift between the two of them. But I really liked this movie by the end of it. I sort of felt that the evolution of species included himself, his marriage, us as human beings, science, the whole thing. So four stars.
