Cosmopolis stars Robert Pattinson, is directed by David Cronenberg, and is one of the weirder movies I’ve ever seen. I think I get the point, which is capitalists are all decadent and the world is getting fed up with them and people are revolting — in both senses of the word. But this movie feels like a whole bunch of sort of story ideas that are thrown against a wall to see what sticks. There’s not much coherence in it. The acting seems to me, especially Robert Pattinson, very wooden and very robotic. You don’t care about anybody in it. There is a serious amount of violence, so I’m not sure I exactly get the point except: capitalism, bad. Doomed, shallow, nasty, selfish, superficial people. Two stars.
