Contagion

JOY REVIEW

Contagion is a truly scary story from Director Steven Soderbergh that deals with a worldwide epidemic.  The film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s married to Matt Damon, and becomes a carrier for the flu pandemic. There are a whole bunch of biological scientific things that don’t make sense here, but it’s well enough directed and it seems like everybody is in it. Kate Winslet plays a dedicated scientist; Lawrence Fishburn plays the head of the CDC (Center for Disease Control). Jude Law plays a blogger with less than impeccable morals, and so it goes. I’m not going to tell you everybody in the cast because it’s kind of fun to discover them as it goes along. It’s very well directed, Steven Soderbergh is certainly a master of his craft, and it’s well edited. As I said, the science leaves a little bit to be desired, and it will probably scare the living daylights out of you. Three stars.
