SYNOPSIS

Two security guards, Paul and Grady, are hired to guard the grave of dead rock legend, Colin Fitz. Through the course of one bizarre night, these two opposites learn a lot about life, death, and the magic of Colin Fitz.

REVIEW

Colin Fitz Lives is trying to be ‘Spinal Tap’-esque but it misses the mark hugely. The story is about two hapless security guards, whose boss is played by William H. Macy. They are supposed to be guarding the tombstone of Colin Fitz who is an Elvis-like, Jim Morrison-like figure. It turns out we don’t know until most of the way through the movie that there was an unfortunate incident on the fourth anniversary of his death. This is the fifth anniversary. So they’re supposed to be in a graveyard, and various sundry people come and we understand different back stories about the two guards. The problem is you don’t actually care about any of the characters and characters they all are. Even a winsome Martha Plimpton and a gruff John C. McGinley can’t cut through the silliness. It’s not very well written. It’s supposed to be cute, I suppose. There is somehow a spark of an idea there but it never really burst into anything other than the spark. The back story is that it was a hit at Sundance and then got lost in limbo for fourteen years. Hmmm, maybe the Universe is a film critic. One star.
