Citizen Gangster brings Scott Speedman back to the screen, which I’ve always thought he was a great actor with a great deal of charisma, and he’s adorable in this. It’s apparently based on a true story of someone called Edwin Boyde, a Canadian who was a decorated soldier, and begins driving a bus, marries a lovely English woman, and they have two kids and can’t quite make it. And this is a story really for our times of somebody who’s so frustrated with where they are, that he walks off the bus and decides that what he’s going to start robbing banks to deal with his family. Brian Cox plays his father, the cop, and there are some assorted character actors who are really good, who become part of his gang after he’s in prison. This movie could have moved a little faster, to be quite honest, but having said that, Scott Speedman is terrific in it. It’s an interesting plot and based on a true story. It could have been a little shorter. Three stars.
