Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant – Movie Review
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant: A young boy named Darren Shan meets a mysterious man at a freak show who turns out to be a Vampire. After a series of events Darren must leave his normal life and go on the road with the Cirque Du Freak and become a Vampire.
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is a horrible title for a fairly cute movie. First of all, make sure that you’re there to watch the opening credits, because they’re really superb. They’re animated and they’re really wonderful. The film stars John C. Reilly, Josh Hutcherson, who was in The Road to Terabithia, Salma Hayek, as we’ve all heard about as the bearded woman, and Chris Massoglia who plays the good kid who hangs out with a bad boy, Steve, and then they decide to go see the Cirque du Freak, which is a weird show. John C. Reilly — who may or may not be a vampire and may or may not be a bad guy stars in the show along with the wonderful Ken Wanatabe who won kudos in The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. I don’t want to tell you too much about it, because it actually won’t help to tell you too much about it, and it’s a better movie than it should be. It’s really a much better movie, with clearly some potential for sequels if it makes a lot of money. It’s certainly not for young kids, but the acting is good enough and some of the special effects are really wonderful, and you might really enjoy it. I liked it a lot better than I thought I would. Three stars.
