Children of Invention
Two young children living illegally in a model apartment outside Boston are left to fend for themselves when their hardworking mother disappears.
Children of Invention is one of those little movies that’s easy to overlook and shouldn’t. It’s a story of an immigrant mom who’s come from Hong Kong. Her husband has decamped back to Hong Kong leaving her with two kids, one of whom is just such a lovely little actress that you just want to eat her with a spoon. And what happens when mom desperately tries to get a foot up on the economic ladder and how the kids respond. It’s one of those little movies that doesn’t really do a whole lot, but everything it does, it does well and right, and it’s just a charming movie. Four stars.
