Cheri – Movie Review

SYNOPSIS

Michelle Pfeiffer stars in the turn-of-the-century tale of an experienced French courtesan and her young lover.

JOY’S REVIEW

CHERI is a terrific movie by Stephen Frears, who also did “Dangerous Liaisons” starring Michelle Pheiffer as a woman of a certain age of a certain profession, who falls in love with one of her colleague’s young son, who is 18 when they first meet. Michelle Pheiffer is always wonderful to see on stage and she goes between looking absolutely ageless and her age. The costumes are fabulous. This is a story based on two Collette novels, Collette being the somewhat scandalous French writer. It’s really more a story about love and loss than it is about a older woman and a younger male. I know the term cougar has become very trendy, but this is really about love. Four stars.
