Centurion – Movie Review

A splinter group of Roman soldiers fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack.

Centurion is an old-fashioned movie. Old-fashioned in that it takes place in AD 117, where the Roman Empire went from Egypt to Spain, and the Brits and Scots were rejecting the idea that Rome should rule the world. We have Michael Fassbender, who’s adorable as a Centurion, who’s somehow in the army. I don’t want to say too much about this, except that it’s very bloody. It’s very dark and primitive. Even so, I found it interesting and fun, but I like history. The terrific Dominic West plays a general who is heroic and beloved by his men. If you don’t like bloody sort of pagan stories, then this probably isn’t your cup of tea, or mead. If you do, I thought this was entertaining. I’d give it three stars.
