Carnage

JOY REVIEW

Carnage is a movie based on the play “Gods of Carnage.”  This one stars Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christopher Waltz, and John C. Reilly, and is directed by Roman Polanski. The story is that two 11-year-old boys get into a fight on the playground and the parents get together to see if they can’t resolve the problem, and it deteriorates from there. All subtlety was lost in this.  I remember the play as being terrific, and several people got Tony’s for it. In this one you’ve got a great cast, but it just seems to be nearly slapstick or something, including projectile vomiting and drunkenness. I don’t remember the play being nearly this over the top, but whether I remember correctly or not, I give this no more than two and a half stars.
