Captain America: The First Avenger
I really liked this movie and I must tell you, in an attempt to be incredibly straightforward and honest, that the theater literally was sickening. There was no air conditioning and people actually left. The publicist came up to me afterwards and said thank you for staying, which doesn’t happen very often, and gave me a free coke. I’ll tell you about the coke machine at some other point, but back to Captain America! Chris Evans plays a scrawny orphan from Brooklyn and everybody bullies him who has a big strong friend, so he goes off to war. The beginning of this is terrific, it’s Marvel Comics, and it’s really wonderful. I expected to really hate this and would have been happy to walk out just because it was so uncomfortable to be there, but it was actually a pretty good movie. They turned Chris Evans from a scrawny kid who had sand thrown in his face to this hunky guy. CGI to the rescue, but it is still incredibly effective and impressive. But, at any rate, you’ll enjoy the movie as I did. Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci both add a certain charm to the movie that probably would not have been there without them. But I would give it three and a half stars. The shield is impressive as is Hugo Weaving as Red Skull. I thought it was really fun!
