One Man Show

Buyer and Cellar is a one man show written by Jonathan Tolins, and I didn’t look up Jonathan until after I had already seen the show and I thought “wow this is really great writing” which wouldn’t have been much of a surprise if I had read his biography beforehand. In fact,he’s first billed on the credits, which is absolutely appropriate considering he wrote ‘Last Sunday in June,’ and ‘Twilight of the Gods.’ He’s a terrific writer, and this one takes a supposedly fictional situation where a young actor works for Barbara Streisand in her cellar, which is set up as an old fashioned village with all of her stuff in it. Supposedly it really exists as she wrote a book called “Crazy for Design” and she talks about it, and this is his experience with it. It’s really a tour-de-force. It’s funny, it’s hilarious, there’s one one-word sentence in it that will just rock your world and you will remember forever and ever. I won’t tell you what it is, cause I don’t want to spoil any of the fun of this, but this is brilliantly written, funny, poignant, incredibly well acted, and something that shouldn’t be missed. Michael Urie plays her hapless seller in the cellar. This is really not to be missed, four stars.
