Breaking Upwards – Movie Review
A young New York couple intricately strategize their own break up.
Breaking Upwards S is not a bad idea for a movie. It’s a couple that we’ve seen before who are having some difficulties, and trying to decide what to do to fix it. They decide to take some days off, and complications ensue. The problem is that the director, the writer, and the star are all the same person, and the producer and the female lead are all the same person, and this movie really could have used some fresh eyes and a little less self indulgence. Now, having said that, there’s some really good people in it. Julie White is in it, Pablo Schrieber is in it, some other Broadway actors whose faces you may recognize whether or not you recognize their name or not. It’s not a bad movie, but it just needed a little more professionalism. I’m not even complaining that the leads aren’t traditionally Hollywood gorgeous because I don’t think that’s the issue. I just think that when people are starting out, that without some professional help, that things can look unnecessarily amateurish. So, A for effort, but not for entertainment value. Two stars.
