Black Dynamite – Movie Review
This is the story of 1970s African-American action legend Black Dynamite. The Man killed his brother, pumped heroin into local orphanages, and flooded the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor. Black Dynamite was the one hero willing to fight The Man all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.
Black Dynamite, I think, is supposed to be a satire. It’s starring Michael Jai White, which tells you how hip it is. It is directed by Scott Sanders, who also wrote the screenplay. I guess it’s supposed to be a send up of 1970 black exploitation movies with what seems to be a cartoon as inspiration. However the movie itself was just plain tedious. Satire is hard to realize on film. I suppose that that’s what the attempt was here. God knows Michael Jai is cute, but I just couldn’t grasp at what this move was trying to get at or be. I think it was a send up of something. I give it one star.
