Bad Teacher stars Cameron Diaz, Jason Segal, and Justin Timberlake, as well as Judy Punch who actually steals the movie out from underneath everybody. This is one of those movies that tries really hard to be really cute and really crude all at the same time. If you care at all about teachers or education, you’re going to hate this movie. If you’re just looking for kind of mindless summer stupid, kind of crude entertainment, you may be okay. But it’s another one of those movies where there’s no one to like. Cameron Diaz is a gold digger who just takes a job, hates the job, hates the students, is over-sexed and under-educated, and under-compassioned. Jason Segal plays a gym teacher without much charisma. Justin Timberlake plays a seemingly rich kid who is slumming to teach, but turns out to have his own problems. And Judy Punch plays kind of the do-gooder teacher who is used to winning awards and is incredibly threatened by Cameron, as she should be. So, this is one of those movies, as I said, that you really have to suspend complete disbelief. It has nothing to do with anything. The problem is it’s just such a crummy model for teaching and how to deal with students. And the last five minutes are vaguely appealing because people finally slightly resemble human. But it’s kind of a “waste of time” kind of movie. Two stars.
