Pick of the Week!
Avatar is everything you’ve heard and more. I must say going in I was not looking forward to this. What do I care about nine foot tall blue salamanders? Well, it turns out that James Cameron has taken movie making to a new level. With Titanic, he told an old story in a way we’d never seen before. It ended up winning everything, and Cameron, in fact, was king of the world. And now, with Avatar, an entirely new story, he’s going to be king not only of this world but of Pandora as well. Again, I wasn’t really looking forward to this. Science fiction is not necessarily my thing. But this is really great movie making. You get to wear the Elvis Costello 3D glasses and the special effects are mind blowing. Everything you see on screen took at least 250 million dollars, 2,000 people and three years to make. It’s a love story that will engross you. Kids under the age of 10 will probably be scared silly, but I’m not sure kids under the age of 10 should be at movie theaters anyway. This is the movie to beat this year. Not only that, but this is the movie that people will be talking about for years to come. It’s wild, it’s fun, it’s entertaining, it is mind boggling and you will love every second of it. Well, unless your hiney gets tired after two hours, but my guess is you won’t even notice. Go see Avatar. Five stars.
