Arbitrage is a movie that has sort of a corrupt, moral center that’s absolutely fascinating and really fun to be at starring Richard Gere as a Wall Street billionaire with questionable morals, who’s desperately trying to sell his company. He borrowed $412 million from a friend to make his bottom line look better and has been cooking the books. His daughter works for him. Susan Sarandon is terrific as his wife in their beautiful apartment. He has a son who isn’t too bright who works for him, and a mistress. I’m not going to tell you very much about the plot because it’s part of the fun of watching the movie. But watching sort of a modern day Gordon Gecko shuck and jive, and sort of deal with what I guess has become standard operating procedure for people who aren’t very moral, is absolutely terrific. Richard Gere has never been better. Four stars.
