Adoration – Movie Review

For his French-class assignment, a high school student weaves his family history in a news story involving terrorism, and goes on to invite an Internet audience in on the resulting controversy.

“Adoration” is a movie with a good cast. It focuses on a high school French teacher who gives her class an exercise in translation, based on a real news story, about a terrorist who plants a bomb in the airline luggage of his pregnant girlfriend. One of the students overreacts by imagining the news item as his own family story. This movie I found confusing, sort of unpleasant. I thought that the role of the high school French teacher was very well-played Arsinee Khanjian, but I don’t know why they made this movie. I supposed Atom Egoyan had some point to it. I just found it confusing, and basically unpleasant, and kind of vicious on some level. One star.
