JOY’S REVIEW

A Passion for Giving is one of those documentaries that you’d really like to like and really can’t quite find it in your heart to do so. It’s so uneven, and in some ways, while heartfelt, it’s very amateur-ish and deals with philanthropy on so many different levels. I’m not sure exactly who the market for this is, but certainly there are legitimate quotes from all sorts of people talking about how good it feels to give. There are some incredibly effective philanthropists and some people who have been incredibly effective. But as a documentary, I think you’re going to do what my daughter did, which is say, gee mom I think I’ll go watch television, sigh. One star.
