A Life Ascending looks at a man whose name is Reudi Beglinger, who lives in British Columbia, really off the beaten track, with a wife and two daughters who are home schooled. He’s a guide who takes people up on the mountain to do skiing in fairly extreme conditions. We have a whole bunch of instances of him explaining to people that you could lose your life because of avalanche, and it turns out that in 2003 he actually had a party of 13 people, of whom seven perished in an avalanche, and it got huge amount of publicity. The idea is sort of should he have had them up there, did he fail them as a guide, and why do people do things like this? It’s actually a pretty interesting documentary that looks at how you recover from tragedy. Two and a half stars.
