AMOUR, which of course is French for LOVE, is a film by Michael Haneke, and it’s already won the Palme D’or at Cannes. It’s in the Toronto Film Festival, and it’s Austria’s selection for the Oscar. It stars the terrific Jean-Louis Trintignant, and Emmanuelle Riva. It’s a story of a couple who’s been together, clearly for a long time. They have a very sophisticated daughter, whom they don’t see very much, who is played by Isabelle Huppert, and they have a lovely, cultured life with a very fancy apartment in Paris; they are clearly a loving couple until tragedy strikes. This is a long movie, it is certainly not for the faint of heart, but it is touching, beautifully acted, and something that we probably all need to be aware of. So, I’ll give it four and a half stars. Not easy, but a worthwhile movie.
