The Summer of Free.
As you all know being 25 in NYC is a tough position, because you are no longer a recent grad, but you still can’t afford dinner and theater Friday and Saturday night. That is why I turned my attention to Time Out New York Magazine (http://newyork.timeout.com/). My entire summer has been scheduled according to their free section. And the most recent free summer concert was GIRL TALK in Brooklyn, on the water in prospect park. My friend and I felt like senior citizens in the sea of highschoolers/Marymount Manhattan/NYU freshmen, who rocked some serious faux hipster outfits- think neon ray bans, silver skirts, and leggings. I still wear things of that nature, but not as bright.
Let me just say that it was a great show. There was a beer and wine garden, where you could have a refreshment (or five), basketball courts, dodge ball, and of coarse the music! We danced and rocked to the mash ups in the sweaty heat, when finally the rain came, which cooled us off instantly. Afterwards we headed to Teddy’s Bar and Grill ( http://www.yelp.com/biz/teddys-bar-and-grill-brooklyn) for after concert specials. This place was packed with a diverse mix, had a jammin juke box, and key lighting after a day of sweating makeup. Dining on muscles, fries, and steak salad ended the night on a high note. So the entire day of festivities cost me:
Metro Card there and back: 4.50
Three refreshments: 18.00
Dinner at Teddy’s: 20.00
Yeah, still not close to being free, but well worth it.
Next Sunday offers the same fun fare, with a different DJ, so you have time. Drink lots of water and enjoy.
